He did not receive any salary during the year he was here end made a picture as assistant directer because he did not wish te arouse antagonism and also he did not think it ras fair to take monzy avay fron. an american on the set, so ne worked without compensation. z t "hr. Later, cs you recall, ir. VON STERN- SENG had 2 nervous breakdorn and since he was the center of the company from the directorial standpoint, they planned for ur. SIEBER to return to his home in C.lifornia; this was in the fall of 1937. Then he vas held up on account of the illness of the daughter, 2s siven above. "LARTA and kr. SIEZER did not get back to the United States until duns, 1732 and by thet time Liss DIZPRICH was readyte go back to Burops, so Sh¢ met teem in Few York on their arrival in Jims of 1939, but by that time sau vas finished! in pletures in Hollyvooc, so they said, and finding she could not get a commitment for 2 picture here, they went back to France to varotizte for 2 picture there, as.she thought that if she made a smash hit in Francs’ she vould then be in demand asain in dollyveod. Ploase understand thet on this anformition she left her furniture, bank sem unt, everything they hac, in California, proving conclusively thet Culiformin was still their heree “y the time they arrived in France the rar clouds were becoming. very: ominous and irs.
