An article in the July 3, 1956 edition of
the "Daiiy Worker" reflected that ARTHUR MILLER and
MARILYN MONROE were married in a civil seremony at
White Plains, New York, on Friday, (June 29, 1956),
and were subsequently memarried at Katonah, New York, on
duly 1, 1956, in the Jewish faith.

An article in the June 21, 1956, edition of
the “New York Journal American", a daily newspaper, captioned
"House To Quiz MILLER On Passport Dispute", reflected
that ARTHUR MILLER, Broadway playwright, would interrupt
his romance with Hollywood's MARILYN MONROE, “today” to
appear before the House Comuilttee on Un-American Activities
(BCUA). According to the artiele, MILLER was scheduled to
testify on his "passport basbke" with the United States
State Department and further: that the members were ig
certain to quiz MILLER on his alleged links with "some “
29 organizations cited as Communist fronts by the
House Committee on Un-American Activities or the United
States Attorney General."
An article in the “New York Timea", a daily .
newspaper, edition of June 22, 1956, datelined June 21, 1956,
and taptioned “ARTHUR MILLER Admits Helping Communist Front
Groups In 40's", reflected that MILERR “discloses today
a past filled with Communist front associations.” According
toe the article, MILLER told the CUA he had signed many appeals. anc
protests issued by "Red front groups in the last decade.’
He denied being “under Communist discipline."

asked about his sponsorship of a World Youth Festival in
Prague in 1947: the signature on a 1947 atatement against
the outlawing of the CP; a signature on ® statement
defending GERHART EISLER before he fled this country te
become a top Communist official in East Germany; a statement
attacking the BCUA:s and etatements opposing Wal smedhatht .
The article reflected that MILLER stated he FS RO MEROTY —
of most of these things but that he would not deny them. ;
