_ An article in the June 26, 1964 issue
of tre “New York Post", a local New York newspaper,
ezptioned ‘MALCOLM X to ELIJAH; Let's End the
Fighting". This article states "Malcolm X today
called for an end to the three month dispute which
has split the black Muslim movement in Harlem.
In an open letter to ELIJAH MUHAMMAD,
he urged an end to hostilities which threaten to
flare into open warfare between the two groups,
his dissidents and the parent body headed by
ELIJAH. He called for unity in sdving the
problems of Negroes in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia
and other parts of the South.
"Instead of wasting all this energy
fighting each other," he wrote, “we should be working
in unity with other leaders and organizations in an
effort to solve the very serious problems facing all
Afro-Americans".
He asked ‘ELIJAH MUHAMMAD how, since the
Muslims did net resort to violence when they
were attacked by "white racists" in Los Angeles,
and Rochester, N. Y., they could justify declaring
war on each other.
