WU Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation on September 12, 1955, and again on September 14, 1955, observed Sidney Poitier entering 263 Seventh Avenue, ’ “New York City, which, at that time, was the address of the Communist Party, United States of America (CPUSA) Headquarters and the New York State Communist Party Headquarters. On December 29, 1954, Sidney Poitier was interviewed by Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. During th course of the interview, Poitier stated, "I am not now a member of the Communist Party and whether I have ever been would be a question of terminology", but he stated that he had never formally been a member of the CP; however, later in the interview, he stated that he had never been a member of the CP. He remarked that he had attended affairs at which current events and politics were discussed, and he stated that these might have been construed by some individuals as CP meetings.
