For your information the subject arrived at Baltimore, Marylani, on February 27, 1945, a8 a passenger on BOAC Clipper "Bangar" from the United Kingdom. She was not interviewed at great length but advised that she was & playwright, having residence at 63 East Send Street, New York City, and was returning from a tour which she began October 1, 1944, and during which she traveled in Alaska, Russia, Iran, Egypt, North Africa, France, and England. She stated that during this trip she was a guest of the Soviet and British Governments. She described her tour as a cultural tour. , For your confidential information Miss HELLMAN displayed at the time of the interview some indignation that a person of her prominence should be subjected to any questioning upon entrance into the United Stestes. She carried United States passport number 603692. it is to be noted further that no baggage or body search of the sub- ject was conducted upon her entry at the Port of Baltimore.
