It is well known thet there have been during the past two years reports from
the various perts of the country of the sighting of unidentified aerial
objects which have been celled in newspaper parlance "flying discs" and
"flying saucers". The first such sightings were reported fromm Sweden, and
it was thought that the objccts, the nature of which was unknown, might have
originated in itussia.
In July 1945 an unidentified aircraft w by an Eastern sirlines
Pilot and Cag anes end one or more onnbainangl of the Eastern .irlincs Plane
over Montgomery, Alabama. This aircraft was reported to de of an uncon-
ventional type. sithout wings and resembled generally a "rocket ship" of the
type depicted in comic strips. It wos reported to have had windows; to
have been larger then the Zastern .irlincs planc, anc to heve been traveling
ct an cstimated speed of 2700 miles an hour, It appearcd out of a thunder- <
head ahead of the Zastcrn Airlines plane and immediately disa speared in anothe S
cloud narrowly missing 2 collision with the Zastern Jirlincs lane, No
sound or air disturbance was noted in connection with this cppcarancc,.
During the p-st two months various sightings of uncxplcined phenomena heve
been reported in the vicinity of the 4.E.C. Installation ct Los ilomos,
New licxico, where these phenomenc now appear to be concentrated. During
December 19/48 n the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, llth, 13, Ujth, 20th and 28th
sightings of uncxplaincd phenomena were made nesr Los ..lamos by Speciol
agents of the Office of Special Investigction; .irline Pilots; Military
rilots, Los jlemos Sccurity Inspectors, and privatc citizens. On
Jenuary 6, 1949, another sinilar object was sightcd in the sane arcas
Dr. LINCOLN Li. P..Z, a2 Uctcorologist.ef some note, has been generally in
