Note: Last year's Boston report on carried a special section
on CPUSA support cor Basically has been the subject of a
closed 157 investigation by the Boston Division and has traveled on several
occasions to Cuba. He has been a frequent attendee at CPUSA functions.
In November, 1984, it was learned that the HALL/DAVIS election
would be subject to an extended period of analysis which will go on at both
local and national levels. It was suggested that it might be better to focus
on international problems for a while and leave domestic issues alone. It
was also stated that it was necessary for the CP to plan its strategy for
the 1988 Presidential campaign now.
During Janu the CPUSA NED published a draft report by
District Organizer hich sought to examine issues relating to
the 1984 Presidential election. Excerbs follow. Commenting on the campaign

"In our communist electoral work, we have severai concrete goals.
One, build the largest possible political rally around the appearance of
ANGELA DAVIS on October 13. This would include the mass outreach to build
the rally and assuring the best possible political content of the rally."
"Two, distribute ten thousand copies of the brochures by cusp’ HALL."
"Three, run an abridged version of the above article in a number
of selected newspapers."
"Four, maximize the impact of end rang. camoaten as an open
communist instrument in the anti-~REAGAN movement. ss

"YT believe that we can agree that we successfully completed three
of these tasks, and nearly completed the other. We distributed eight thousand
copies of the pamphlet. We placed an ad in the Bay State Banner, the Item,
the Brighton, Massachusetts, paper, and Cambridge, Massachusetts, paper,
the Somerville, Massachusetts, paper, the Watertown, Massachusetts, paper,
and the main paper of Burlington, Vermont. Money was not raised in.a timely
fashion for these ads except in the case of the Roxbury-Dorchester and:Somervill
clubs. And we did not even have the information for the Western Massachusetts
selection until the last week of the campaign."

“Our communist congressional candidate, LAURA ROSS, completed her
campaign successfully, registered 15,668 votes--over 24 times the vote in
