a ee _ et ~- ph) re a ee bey Se et nee Sr eee te . wen eapecielly in view of the change in attitude on the part of © 9-7: Tne . the informant. Ae will be noted, there 1s available at this time. no basis for auch action except the unsupported statement of . :) the informant. As stated in my letter of February 2nd, in view .. .. of the positive nature of the statement of the informant as pre-. - ut viously mede, it appeared incumbent upon the Ranseas City Office > j to take necessary action. On the other hand, it would seem ‘¢ detrimental to make any move in connection with one of the Italian \ Underworld until something positive is secured in advance, since this might disclose the suspicions in thet direction. . a ee el =? Before tke death of Wilber Underhill, thet Subject stated .° to Special Agent in Charge Colvin that Subject Farvey Bailey had . oo. informed him the names of two men whom he believed were Italians ~~ from Fansas City, who were participants in the murders in this- case. ‘This was related to Special agent Andersen by Er. Colvin, = =~ who said that Underhill profegsed to have forgotten the names of | these individuals. This, of course, gives a basis for suspicion that somefof the Itelian Underworld in Kansas City did participate. There are a number of statements appearing herein and in my letter of February 2nd es made by informant "F" that can and will be _- discreetly checked by this office. ; oo, oo, Durizg this last conference with the informant, Sheriff Bash and bis Deputy, Mr. Kelley, conferred at intervals privately with the Agents. ‘They expressed the belief that the informant was not eufficiently positive at this time to give such definite ‘ assurance as would werrent the taking of action now. The informant expressed the desire thet he be allowed to seek further information from the Italians of Kanses City, esying he was positive that he would be in a position to secure it and pledging his desire to are _ assist this office in so doing. He promised specifically to secure . definite information with reference to the residence and connections ~—. of Joe Polocie. ee ee gets OMT S: Pace Fae ee Sheriff Bash privately suggested to the Agents that he arrest Joe Polocie, when he hea been pointed out by informant *F*, in the event more positive informetion is not secured with refer-:- 9 =. - ence to him, and that Polocie be fingerprinted and photographed, and full personal data regarding bim be thereby secured. The arrest would, of course, be made without any reference to the instant case and the Agente would not in any way participate. Thereafter such identification as might be mede of the photograph could be under- taken through discreet investigation by this office in connection with thia case. Lo o) “2 DESERT
