Hurt wnt Caries (Kickey) Ryan of the Oklahoma City Police Department, thie office made feontact with an ex-convict, Whe for purposes of record will be known as Jack Hughes, formerly in prison at McAlester, and solicited the cooperation of this informant for the purpose of putting Underhill on the spot. He was furnished with an automobile and expense money and contacted Underhill several tines at the place of Lon Johnson, about 25 miles east of Okishoma City, near | EecLoud, Oklahoma, but waa unable to get away in time to inform this cffica. On December 25, 1033 the writer and Agent Frank Smith contacted this ine formant and told him of the advisability of checking Shawnee, Oklahoma quite closely as in our opinion it was one of the principal ports of call far Underhill, end that he undoubtedly had some house there where he stopped, Arrangements were made whereby informant would notify Agent Frank Gnith, in whose immediate neighborhood he resides, upon the TecotPt of any definite ine formation, io, At 11:30 P.M., December 29, 1933, Agent Smith received a telephone call from the informant from Shewnee, Oklehoma, at whith time he advised that Underhill, his wife, Hazel Budson Underhill, and Ford JEradshaw, a notorious Oklahoma bank robber, were then in a house at Shewnee, where informant had just visited them. Informant requested that the Police at Shawmee be in- structed to arrest both him and his companion and hold them in jeil pending. arrival of Division agents. Informant desired that thie be done in order te avert suspicion, Therefore, agent Snith requested the Night Chief of Police, Frenk Bryant of Shawnes, to apprehend informant and his campenion, whose identity informant had not disclosed over the phone. Accordingly, informant and his compenion, who developed to be Lon Johnson, were arrested and placed in the Shamee City Jail. , The writer was immediately advised by Agent Smith of the above ine formation and o posse was organized consisting of the writer, Agents Frenk © Snito, K. D. Deaderick, G. H. Franklin, J. M. Bdgar, T. M. Birch and Paul Hansen; Deputy Sheriffe W. I. Eads, John ddans, George Kerr and George Catron; and Oklahoma City Folice Detectives Lieutenant C. 0, Hurt, Charles (Mickey} Ryan and D. A. Bryce, Be immediately proceeded to Shawnee, arriving there at 1:20 a.M., Decender 30, 1933, and contacted Night Chief of Folice Frank Bryant and interviewed the informant, who stated that he hed come to Shewnee with Lon Johnson about 7:30 P.M., December 29, 1935, whare they had gone to the house ~ at 606 Weat Dewey in an effort to contact Underhill, but found no one at home, They returned scnewhere about 6:30 and found Underhill, his wife, Hazel Hudson Underbi11, and Ford Bredshew present.
