He was in Kansas City curing the past Spring fog a period of trelve days. He stated that while. there he associated with Verne“ililler's gang; that curing that time on three. or four deys a week he had dinner at Malloy's home; that on two occasions Miller took him to Johnnie Leshiets (7) place. He further advised Mr. Conroy that Bailey and Miller were not on good terms; thet Phillips, knorn as @Big Phil" hed been killed. Mr. Conroy stated that this confirmed information” given by Bailey to Agent Andersen in Oklahoma to. the effect that "Big Phiit was killed in the East. Stacy stated he did not think Bailey ras connected ‘a, > \ vith the Kansas City massacre; that he doesn't know George Kelly, and does 2 ‘snot believe he was running with this gang; that if he, Stecy, sees Miller " will kill hin. cl ‘+ ot AF Mr. Conroy expressed the belief that so far as the Kensas City angle = J Tis eoncerned, there should be no soubt tit that JohnniefLashia kmozs the identity - QO < of those involved. He stated that Lashia is now under ‘indictment in Féderel _-- ~ Spe Court, ang he will call him into his office upon his return to Kansas City, oO } for questioning. . ; . o q f Mr. Conroy advised me that he geve Mr. Purvis the above informe- . §$ tion, and told him to keep everyone away from this man, but that -he had. given — . the impression to the other Agents in the office that he had been unable to JA. Js secure any information. Mr. Conroy stated thet the situation is rather can- gerous; that if the crowd finds out that Stacy is talking they will kill him. I instructed Mr. Conroy to make this contact..at Chicago about twice a month and to give this matter his personal attention. He steted that before making the next contact in Chicago he till contact Malloy and Lagpic in Kansas City, as rell as Batley, Kelly and Bates. / + 4 a
