MEUORANDUL FOR THE DIRECTOR,
Sunday. night at ebout 9:00 P. M. Agent Trainor called from
Kansas City. He advised that they had received a report from the Birminghan
office which indicated that that office had located Louise®Connors, who
is under indictment in the Kansas City case for obstructing justice; that
they had telked to the Birmingham office by telephone after receiving the
report and Trainor had contributed his suggestion that the woman they had
loceted eat Memphis, Tennessee, is, in fact, Louise Connors and suggested
that she be apprehended the first thing this morning. Trainor said he had
talked the matter over first with Turrou, who 1s there, and that he and
Turrou sre entirely satisfied that the Birmingham office has the right
woman and that they, further, felt that it would be extrenely dangerous
to wait any longer hoping thet she would make contact with any of the male
fugitives in this case and therefore had suggested her prompt apprehension.
égent Trainor also stated he thought thet much could be accomplished if
Agent Turrou could interrogate Louise Connors at the time of her apprehension as
after talking to the Birminghen office he felt that there wes probably no one
at thet office sufficiently familizr with the backgroud of the entire case
to ingelligently interrogete her. I told Trainor, uho wes acting in the
absence of both Mr. Conroy and Mr. Spear, that shen they received word
at Kansas City that this wonan hed been epprehended at Memphis unless Turrou
had received instructions from the Director he should proceed promptly to
Memphis. It is expected that the woman will be apprehended sometime this
morning before noon and the Birmingham office is to notify Kansas City
promptly upon the cpprehension, as well as, of course, this office. Turrou
will proceed to Nemphis in accordance with these instructions then that word
is received at Kansas City unless we send instructions to the contrary. I
believe that this would be a good move, particularly in view of the fact |
that Turrou is more or less marking time until we get some definite word ,
from California.
