Director, Division of Investigation, U.S. Department of Justice, VYashington, DeCe Dear Sir: On October 17, 1933 a call was received from the Sheriff at San Rafeel, California, to the effect that they understood thet "Pretty Boy"7Floyd was in that vicinity, and ac- cordingly Special Agents O'Rourke, Ramsey, and Vetterli, pro= ceeded to San Rafael, where we interviewed the Sheriff, and were then teken to Fairfax, California, to interview Chief of Police Perry» , A filling station operator at Fairfax, Cal if-— ornia, believes he saw Floyd passing through in en automobile about thres weeks aco. However, there is noth ing definite. Thoir other informant, who was supposed to have detailed, definite information, apparently was gust en individual peeking some publicity. There did not appear to be anything to ad his story at all. During the absence of the writer, and Special Agent O'Rourke, Special Agent Montgomry took over the San Franr- cisco Office.
