Please be advised that the Allen referr
telegram ie Special agent F. W. Allen of thie office, In thet econ-
nection your attention is directed to a letter from this office to
the Divieion, dated August 18, 1935, in the case entitled Vernon C.
S Miller, with alieses, fugitive, I. 0. #1195, et al, Obstruction of
Justice (imdeavor to Deliver Federal Prisoner Frank’Neash), in which
4e eet forth an interview had by Agont Allen with Charles Shank at
_ Danville, Illinois on August 15, 1955.
‘With respect to the statement in thie telegras that Allen
Was not available, I desire to advise that Alien had left Danville
on August 23, 1935, and did not again return to Danville until
September 5, 1933, at which time he reported before the Federal
Grand Jury et that place, and therefore inquiry by Mr. Shank de
veloped Allen to be not available for him to confer with.
With respect to the statement in this telegram to the
effect that Allen was not wanted, please be advised that at my re-
73 F quest Mr. Shank was interviewed by Special agent F. F. Yeoarsley,
-who inquired of Charles Shank concerning his reasons for this state-
ment, and copies of the memorandum covering this interview are be-
ing attached hereto and made a part of this letter.
Mr. Shank hed previously advised Special Agent H. Gd.
Maynor of this office thet he did not like the Denville Police Of-
: ficere for the reason that be believed they did not put any stock
—_—_—- in hie etory concerning Pretty Boy Floyd. He stated that when he
was interviewed by dgent Allen on Auguet 165, 1035, allen was accom
panied by officer Burline of the Denville Police Department, whan
’ he, Shank, does not like, and that he thought that if Allen again
