Re: Benjamin Harri son\Covell
Pursuant to your telephonic instructions on angust SO, 1935, Special
Agent L. PF. Oliver was assigned to Iocate the above-named inlividual who :
supposedly had been acquainted with FrankQash, deceased, and wo had made the
statement that the man responsible for the massacre of certain officers and
Frank Nash at Kansas City, Missouri, is “a big Polack of New Orleans.*
At the Division of Identificatt on, it was determine? that Cowell as B. BH.
Acovell, Register No. 2064], was received U0.8.P. Kansas February 1, 1024, from
Washington, D. C., crime forging and uttering U. S. obligstions; sentence 3
years - 9 toS years ecmmeurrently. As BenyCovell, #0056, arrested PD, Knox-
ville, Tenn., Feb. 22, 1933, charged invesTigation (forgery); released to
Washington, D. C., Feb. 22, 1933, charge false pretenee; as Benj.$Covell, $11714-
33, received Asylum and Jail, Washinetm, BD. C., March 5, 1955, arge false
pretense; held to Grand Jury.
I have also obtained photographs of Cevell, register No. 4142 PD, tient,
Fla. Two copies of this photograph are attached hereto.

Without succesa. It was learned fran Lt. Clarance Kelley and Officer Evgens —
Davie of the Check Squad, Detective Bureau, Metropolitan Police Department, —
Washington, D. C. that Covell formerly resided at 1910 K &t., N. FW. On Angust
$1, 1933 Agent Oliver contacted Covell at Apt. 404, 1910 K St., N. W., with
the result that Covell woluntarily came to the Washington Field Office there
he was interviewed by myself and Agent Oliver.
Covell stated that he was released from the U. &. Penitentiary, Leavenworth,
Kansas, on August 27, 1927, that he went to Detroit, Michigan, remaining there
for fifteen months am then moved to Washington, D. C., where he bas resided
continuously except for occasional visits to Chicago and elsewhere. He claine
to bave been engaged in the cantracting business at Washington, D. C. from
Kovenber 10, 1928 until be went into bankruptcy, that he operated 12 trucks amd
owned a steam shovel, further that since failing in business he had deen engaget,.
in bootlegzing activities.
