OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE (Endeavor to Deliver Federal Prisoner Frank Nash) ¢ Dear Sir: Reference ia made to my communication of July 25, 1933 concerning EARL SHELTON alias MALCOLAJMcNELL who was arrested by the Sheriff at Monroe, Michigan on Jily 13, 1933 and who a few days following his arrest gave a long atory to the effect that he had been traveling around the country with a Vern Miller and Bill Wiseman. It has now been determined that the Chrysler Sedan from which Shelton was removing a battery when arrested at Monroe was stolen from Erie, Pa. on July 12, 1933. It will be noted in my referred to communication that Shelton claimed thet he had been in Erie at one time. It therefore appears very definite that he stole and trans- ported thie car. There is now every indication to believe that the story about being associated with Vern Miller and Bill Wiseman was manu- factured by Shelton, based on a newspaper article which he had read while confined in the County Jail at Monroe. I have ascertained that he has told many conflicting stories since being interviewed by Agents of this office. & complaint has been filed against him at Detroit and he is now in Pederal custody awaiting grand jury action.
