Mr. Nathan advised that Mr. Vetterli had recetved a call from
the City Maneger, Mr. McElroy, reauesting that he come to see him; that the +
City Manezer stated it was more his case. than ours, inasmuch ‘as tro of his |
men vere killed, and only one of ours; that the City Manager requested that
the telephone numbers in the possession of the Bureau be given him, and that
if this were done he believed they could break the case. Mr. ‘Nathan aevised
that nothing was being done in this regard today. He further advised that :
the important numbers in their possession were the telephone number back from aoe
Fort Smith to Hot Springe on Jyne 16th; a call from Hot Springs to Joplin, -
Missouri on June 16th; a call from Joplin, Missouri to a number in Xensas
City (the house the Agents have been covering) on June 16; a telephone call —
fron the Union Station in Kansas City to Joplin, Missourt, dust after mid- = :
nicht, on June 17th. , wt:
I stated to Mr. Nathan I was of the opinion ve should definitely
ascertein what the Police meant to do with these numbers when they get then, - .
and heve an understanding that they will make no move without first a consulta~
_ tion with thre Bureau-agents. Mr. Nathan stated he thought we should first .
have permission from the telephone company to give these numbers to the Police...
I also advised that it should be determined to whom the City Manager intends .
to give these telephone numbers, and that it should be explained to him that
in receiving these numbers he assumes the Tesponsibility £ for any leaks which
might occur.
