On January 6, 1953, an order was signed by District
Judge Irving BR, Kaufman, Southern District Of Hew York, end
| consented to by Faanuel a, Block, Attorney for the Rosenberge,
and Myles J. Lane, u. 8. Attorney, Southern Distrtet of
Hew York. hts order granted « etay of execution of the
defendante which had been set for the week of January 12,
an affidavit of counsel fer the defendants be ftled attesting
that a petition sor executive clemency wae duly ftled for
aubatesaton to the Prestdent and further that the stay was’
betng granted for the sole purpose of pernstting the
President to pass upon the defendants’ plea for executive
clemency. Further tf any actton was to be taken or legal
proceeding inetttuted which caused deloy or tnter
the expeditious processing of the satd eppltcatton for
executive clenency, the atoy would be vacated. The order
further contatned a proviseton that the stay granted would
exptre five daya after the determination by the President
