"On Sunday might, September 20, 1964, I received
@ call from Concetta Theresa VOLPE (Passport Ho. B256374
issued NY May 8, 1964) who stated that she and ‘the niece
ef the late President’ had been apprehended by the Italians
Police that day. WNiss Volpe (I found out later she had said
to the police she was Contessa Volpe) said they had been
taken to the Questura, they kept her waiting for about
hours without being told why they were detaining her and had
told her she could go but withheld her passport. They had
continued to hold Miss Kennedy, she said. She further said
she and Hiss Kennedy were to appear before the authorities
at 6:00 next morning and she asked that something be done
before then. She said they had no idea why this action vas
being taken against then. ;
“J called Mr. Hackett, Welfare Officer, and he
gaid he would call Miss Volpe at the Albergo Quirinale after
making some phone calls for background information.
“The Police called Mr. Whittinghill Monday morning
and said 3 persons had made a denuncia against Miss Kennedy.
The Police wanted to know who she was. Her passport had been
iesued in the name of Margaret HAMILL but it had been amended
at Bublin to show her known as Josephine Patricia KENNEDY.
(Her husband, John NAMILL, had had his passport amended at
the ). time at Dublin to show him also known as Carlton J.
Povers).
“The Police (Dr. Notari, and another officer whose
mane I 4id not get) accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Hamill, Miss
Volpe, and Mrs. “Raye Rosensweig (Passport No. E259388, issued
NY May 13, 1964) and the Hamill's 3 children to ay office
around 1:00 p.m. Mr. Whittingbill and Miss Offie were present.

aad often, at times interrupting each other or talking sinul-
taneously while other members were talking):
