Ootober 11, 1945 JOSEPH P. KENNEDY SPECIAL SERVICE CONTACT BOSTON FIELD OFFICE Joseph P, Kennedy has been designated as a Special Service Contact since September 7, 1945. He is the former United States Ambassador to Great Britain, from which post he resigned in November, 1940. Because of his diplomatic background and his innumerable contacts in the internaticnal diplomatic set; he has entree to those ciroles and is willing toe use his entree inte these circles on behalf of the Bureau, He is etill actively engaged in the liquor business in New York City and owns several moving picture houses there. He mainteina close connections financial and otherwise with the moving picture industry in California and has some very good cornections in South America in this industry, In the moving picture industry he has many Jewish friends who he believes would furnish him, upon request, with any information in their possession pertain- ing to Communist infiltration into the industry. He feele that he is ina position t+ vo SSCUTG any information the Bureau Tay desire from his contacts in the industry with reference to any individuals who have Communistio sympathies. In a letter dated December 27, 19423, the Boston Office advised that the Resident Agent in Hyannis, Massachusetts, had had many productive investigative and social contacts with Mr. Kennedy, In a report for the quarter ending October, 1944, the SAC stated ‘that the assistance of li, Kennedy had been enlisted in the oase entitled - - Because of his ()7L) previcu erience in the shipbuilding industry he was in a position to — make valuable inquiries regarding the case and did so and furnished ths field office with the results, Although additional reports were received rogerding kr, Kennedy, they contained no information indicoting any further activity on behalf of the office on the part of lr.
