SENATOR EDWARD M. KENNEDY;
ETHEL KENNEDY;
ADLAI STEVENSON - VICTIMS
EXTORTION
The United States Secret Service, Washington, D. C.,
made available two anonymous letters which it received from the
office of Senator Edward M, Kennedy, Washington, D. C. The
first anonymous letter was contained in an envelope addressed
to Mrs. Ethel Kennedy, Hickory Hill, McLean, Virginia, and was
postmarked Boston, Massachusetts, June 26, 1968. This anonymous
letter reads as follows:
"If Ted runs for Pres. or VP he will be killed. We
hate Kennedys.
Stop him."
The second anonymous letter was contained in a white
envelope addressed to Hon. Adlai Stevenson, State Treasurer,
State House, Springfield, Illinols, and was postmarked Boston,
Massachusetts, June 29, 1968. This anonymous letter reads as
follows:
"Mr. Stevenson
You will have Ted Kennedy's blood on your hands.
If he accepts the VP nomination he will die. A few of us
Americans love our country enough to protect it from all threats
and the Kennedy family is a terrible menace to America."
A similar threatening type letter had been received
previously by the office of Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Washington,
