Tour Soom al A review of the Bureau's files reflects that on Mites Gonty November 25, 19)1, a summary memorandum reflecting all pertinent information concerning the abovesceaptioned subject _ was made available to lr. Rhea Whitley, of the Office of Naval Intelligence, for his assistance, as ir. Lash at that time was being investigated as a result of his application for a commission in the Naval Reserve. In connection with recent newspaper publicity to the effect that wr. Lash was employed by the Federal Government, arrangements were made with ir. R. . Hoach, of the Bureau, to determine from the Office of Naval Intelligence whether any investigation had been made by that Agency. Mr. Roach has advised me that the inquiry conducted by the Office of Naval Intelligence consists of one large report and that most of the material contained therein is a restatement of the information appearing in the Bureau's Summary memorandum, together with frequent references made concerning Lash in the various Dies Committee reports on un-American propaganda activities. As only one copy of the report was prepared, Mr. Roach stated it would be ; impossible to have another one made.
