Factor returned to his
home today with the “best
Christmas present ever”
—a pardon from President
Kennedy that spared him
from possible deportation.
It was confirmed in Palm
Beach, Fla., yesterday, where
the President spent the holi-
‘days, that Mr. Kennedy had
granted Factor & Christmas
pardon on a 1943 mail fraud
conviction. —— + -
The pardon, in effect, nulli-
fied deportation P: ings
against the southern Cali-
fornia millionaire that were
begun only last week by the
U. S. Immigration Service.
The proceedings were based
on the conviction. ;
Factor was ecstatic over
the news of the pardon. When
told by United Press Inter-
national at Palm Springs,
Calif, where he spent Christ-
mas, Factor called the pardon
“inst wonderful.” _ :

Factor served nine years
in Federal prison for convic-
tion on several counts involv-
ing re-sale of bonded whisky
certificates. The complicated
scheme involved inducing per-
sons to turn over certificates,
which in turn were offered
for sale to more than one
person.

John P. Barnes, a former U.S.

ruled by an appeals court.
