LA 166-1048 ALBERT B. SNYDER, a key witness in and the June 4, 1968, trial of defendants in the Friars Club cass, had left the Los Angeles area, CY On April 4, 1968, A ISSEN telephonically contacted SNYDER's attorney, and requested a pre-trial interview with S - AUSA NISSEN advised on April 5, 1968, that he had been avi ccd iia that SNYDER could not be located, that his phone had been disconnected and none of his close friends seemed to know his whereabouts. On April 5, 1968, U. S,. District Judge HAUK issued a material witness warrant for SNYDER with $50,000 bail recommended, On the same date, a complaint was issued by U. S. Commissioner RUSSELL R. HERMANN charging SNYDER with violation Title 18, U. S. Code, Section 371, Conspiracy and Title 18, U. S. Code, Section 1621, Perjury. Bond was set at $50,000. On April 18, 1968, when SNYDER failed to appear as a witness when subpoenaed by the U. S, Attorney's office, U. S. District Judge HAUK issued a bench Warrant charging SNYDER with failure to appear and bond was set at $50,000. On May 9, 1968, SNYDER was arrested by Bureau Agents at Ventnor City, New Jersey. On the request of U. S. Attorney W. MATTHEW BYRNE, JR., the complaint charging SNYDER with conspiracy and perjury was not executed at this renin x ht kh time and the arrest of SNYDER was based on the bench warrants issned April 5 and 18, 1968, by U. S. District Judge HAUK at Los Angeles. SNYDER was remanded to custody of the U, S. Marshal, Camden, New Jersey in lieu of $100,000. On May 10, 1968, SNYDER appeared before U. S. District Judge THOMAS M. MADDEN, U. S. District Court, Camden, New Jersey, who reduced the $50,000 bail on each of the aforementioned warrants to $15,000 each. SNYDER was released on bail and was ordered to appear in U. S.
