gressional inquiry or suggestion. He stated thet expressions of intarest
made by Congressmen with respect to a particular prisoner were considered
by him in the sane manner as he considered expressions cf interest from a
wife or a relative of the prisoner, with but one ex cception, nameiy: He
would probably | handle his research work in connection with an inquiry re-
‘ceived from a Congressman a littla quicker then he would an inquiry from
a relative, He added ta't if the desires of the Concressmen were consistent
with the facts ani merits of the case, he went along with tieir recomenda~
tions, 1% was emphasized by Judge WILSON, however, tart the receipt of a
recommendstion or on inquiry fron a Goneressman concerning a particular
priscner had no bearing one way or the other with respect te his final
decision. Judge WILSON stated he was not contacted by a Senator or a Re=
nresentative in connection with the five prisoners in question, namely:
ours CalPAGNL, PLUL DEWCIA, PHILIP DIANDREA, CHARLES GIOS, and JOHN
~ ROSELLI.
Among those members of Congress who have contacted Judge TLSON
are the following: Senators K. 0. McKELL‘R, STAVANT of Tennessee, TYDINGS
of Marylsnd, GUFFSY of Pennsylvania, “HIT: of iaine, LAlGun of North Dakota,
McCARRAN of Nevada, HeCLELLAN of Arkansas, TOM CONNALLY of Texas, and Sen-
ator JOHNSON from Colorado; and Representat tives HAROLD MIUTSON of Minnesota
and SMATHERS of Florida, Judge TILSON stated he could not recall ansthing
specific about the cases on which the forevoing Consressmen hal contacted
“him, with but few"exceptions, He is almost certain that all of the mambers
of: Gongress mentioned have contacted nim within the past five years, le is
equally sure that additional Congressmen have contacted hin, but he could
not recall their names,
To the best of Judge WILSON'S recollection, Senator McXSLLAn
contacted him regarding & prisoner named DOVERS of Somerville, Tennessee,
who was convicted during orld Var II in connection with cotton cases,
nepresentative IL.@OLD KUTSON contacted Judge VILSOU in connection with a
banker in the State of iinnesota who had served a sentence of ten years on
a State Charge, and on being released was tried in Yederal Court and given
an additional sentence of ten years for the same offense. Judge WILSON voted
in favor of paroling this banker.
Judge WILSON believes that Senator McCLELLAN of Arkansas contacted
"him regarding an individual who had been convicted on a Narcotics charge.
