In testimony before the Kefauver Committee,
‘ROSSELLI stated that he 48 acquainted with GENE NORMILE,
having met him somewhere in 1935 or 1936. He said he was
talking with NORMILE and NORMILE said he was going to
try to get a contract for a wire service wnich, at that
time, was called the General News; that NORMILE said a
new company would be formed which would be calied Nationwide,
and he thought he cou'd get the contract for the West
Coast. NORMILE state: if .e could get the West Coast
contract, he would litte to have ROSSELLI associated with
him and give ROSSELLI an incerest. ROSSELLI said that
NORMILE thought that ROSSELLI would have the abiitty to
get some customers and that it would not cost ROSsts. if
very much. ROSSELLI said he heJd no access to the b59ku,
but he received a certain interest each month. ROSSELAT
recalled tnat NORMILE set up his office in the Bank o°
America Building at Sixth and Spring in about 1936; that
ROSSELLI did refer whatever customers he could to NORMILE;
that ROSSELLI went to the ofrice occasionally and received
anywhere from 2 per cent to 10 per cent of the profit.
However, he said he was not on the payroll. ROSSELLI
said he would refer bookmakers to NORMILE and said he
didn't really have to sell the oookmaker, but he was
more concerned in talking somebody into not stealing the
service, He said he persuaded them merely by talking to
them. He admitted he probably had a reputation for being
a tough guy during the prohibition time and this reputation
stayed with him. He said the local wire service never got
along without local corruption.
ROSSELLI sa*td he had received monthly checks
amounting to from $500.00 to $2,000.00 per month and that
this amounted to from 2 per cent to 10 per cent of NORMILE's
monthly profit.
