contributed $2000 cash from personal funds to the bond of RALPH PIERCE sometime -
-, in 1943, exact date unknown. MC CARTHY, who was the owner and operator of the - wen
Franklin-MeCarthy Company, 2121 South Wabash, advised'that RALPH PIERCE |
-called him on the telephone at his place of business and asked him to put up
the $2000 bond, He said PIERCE told him he was in trouble but did not go into
detail. On the basis of personal friendship and business with PIERCE,
Ef CARTHY said he took § e<000 in cash and brought it to the law office
of JOSEPH BULGER, where he obtained a receipt for the money. IM CARTHY stated
he had known PIERCE Since 1934 and PIERCE was a good customer of his.
MO CARTHY further indicated that he was acquainted with CHARLES GIOS by reason
‘of his patronage of his gasoline station.
“MC CART HY advised that the money was returned to him about four or five months
later and that he received it in a lawyer's office, name and address unimown.
The monsy was repaid to him in cash, and at that time the receipt was taken up.
He said he received no profit ar comnission for putting up this money but that
it was just a gesture of his ‘friendship for PIERCE. '

no threats or pressure was made upon him to put up the bond. He further
statedathat he knew of no irregularities in connection with this matter or
any tax matters and that he had not been approached since the above incident
for any loans whatsoever,
