On harch 15, 1945, a newspaper reporter of the Vlashington ivening Star -
advised that he had received inforration that the Chicago Police Lepartnert had -°y
arrested Jack Kearns on larch lA, 1945, on a charge of swindling for which he a
had recently been indicted by the rederal Covernment in New York and in connection *
with the scheme in which one W. W. Chisvell of washington, D. C. had been defrauded:

indicating that Jack Kearns, 62, forner manager of Jack Dempsey, was indicted Mea
in New York on 26 counts, charging violation of the Securities and Exchange Act, “¥

Information was furnished to the Bureau that Jack Kearns, former
manager of Jack Dempsey, was interested in the Chicago Coliseum at 15th and cs
Mabash Avenue, Chicago, Dlinois and, on April 28, 1944, he and others promoted. 4
a professional boxing program at the Chicago Coliseum. It is noted that the
address of the Chicago Coliseum appeared on Kezrns' letter to congressmen
O'Brien.

record under FBI #4281854, for one Jack Kearns, with aliases, Joseph L. McKernan, 4
John Kearns, which'may be identical with Jack Kearns, who requested a visit with i
Roselli. This individual was arrested on July 20, 1932 ty the ew Jersey State ‘4
Police at Freehold, New Jersey, under the name of John Kearns and charged with
attempted assault and battery. No disposition is given for this arrest. On , 4
Karch 15, 1945, he was arrested by the Chicago Police "epartment and charged with |:
violation of Securities and Exchange Act and Conspiracy under the name of Joseph
L. McKernan. No disposition is given for this arrest. Ile was fingerprinted by
the U. S. Marshal at New York on March 23, 1945, under the name of John Kearns
and charged with mail fraud. No disposition is given for this arrest. This
individual was fingerprinted by the State Athletic Commission at Sacrenento,
California, on July 24, 1947, under the name of Jack Kearns. The identification
record indicates this individual was arrested as Joseph L. McKernan on March 15,
1945, as set forth above, on an indictment returned February 8, 1945 in the Souther®
District of New York charging mil fraud, violation of Securities Act of 1933,
conspiracy to violate both statutes, a total of 26 counts, and bail was set at
$5,000. This information was received from Securities and Exchange Commission,
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 2, 1945.
