HISTORY John Roselli was born on June 4, 1905 at Chicago, Illinois, of Italian parents. His mother and father died when he was quite young and he was reared by an uncle. At the age of fifteen or Sixteen he went to Los Angeles where it is reported he worked as a movie extra for about five years. He attended grammar school in Chicago and completed the sixth grade. Ac- cording to his own statement, Roselli was "practically a bum™ until 1935. He married Winifred June Vlasek, commonly known as dune Lang, a movie actress, on April 1, 1940 and was divorced in March, 1943. He allegedly was at one time bodyguard for Harry Cohen, President of Columbia Pictures. When inter viewed in comection with the Browne-Bioff case, he claimed that he was in the general insurance business and was licensed as & solicitor, He was formerly engaged in public relations work for Pat Casey Enterprises in kew York City and Los Angeles and had an interest in Nation Wide News Service at Los Angeles. Roselli advised that he had an interest in the Agua Caliente Race i . 4 c a Track in Mexico. He was inducted into the United States Army on Deceaber 1942 and served as a private until he was arrested on March 19, 1943. ta ANTI-RACKETEERING CONVICTION On December 22, 1543 in the United States District Cours as Now York City Roselli was found guilty by a jury trial for violation of Section 4204, Title 18, United States Code. This was in connection with the ease entitled "William Bioff, with aliases, et al., Anti-Racketeering, Vail Fraud". Investigation conducted in this ease revealed that Roselli, Louis Lampagna,. Charles Gioe, Phillip D'Andrea and Faui Delucia, along with Georza E. Browne and William Bioff and others, had extorted large sums cf money from movie producers. 0On December 31, 1943 Roselli was sentenced to serve ten years in prison and fined €10,000, Various newspaper clippings indicated that Roselli, Campagna, Gioe, D'Andrea and DeLucia were paroled from Federal institutions on August 13, 1947. It is of interest to note that on August 21, 1946 a roliable confidential informant stated that he had heard rumors in Chicago to the ef fect that John Roselli and four associates convicted in the Browne-Bicff case were transferred from Atlante Penitentiary to Leavenworth, as conditions are alleged to be easier at the latter institution. It was alleged that Roselli was able to effect this transfer due to the efforts of one Beard (possibly identical with Same] Roy Beard, FBI No. 837637, who is a well know.
