IS-R ~ i/ “e i + GREAT BRITAIN pi Pursuant to instructions ASAC Welte, Chicago, was 7 advised by telephone 6/11/63 to check out the press item (Appearing in the Washington Star 6/10/63 concerning Dr. Stephen —~ Ward. is item stated that the American Osteopathic issoctation, Chicago, Illinois, reported their records show a Stephen Ward graduated in 1938 from the Kirksville, Missouri, College of Osteopathy in surgery but that he does not belong to the American Association and has practiced osteopathy only in England, Welte was cautioned that the Bureau must not be identified as taking an active interest in this matter and that he should attempt, through his reliable sources, to secure independent verification of the facts alleged in the press, He was instructed that if he is unable to secure this information without identifying his interest he should telephone the appropriate office covering the Kirksville College and ask them to verify Ward's graduation. It was emphasized that the FBI must not be identified in any inquiry and that any facts secured should be immediately furnished to the Bureau.
