The Legal Attache, London, forwarded copies of memoranda
prepared by Alfred Wells, Secretary to Ambassador Bruce, concerning
various persons involved in the instant case, In a memorandum dated
11/6/62 Wells stated that he had attended a dinner the night before
at which he had met Dr. Stephen Ward and that Ward had made loud
statements that he had been the principal liaison between the Soviets
and the British Government during the Cuban crisis. He spoke concerning
the confidential messages he carried between Ivanov and his "friends"
in the British Government. Wells stated that he asked the man sitting
next to him who Dr, Ward was and the man stated that he was an osteopath
and that he procured girls for wealthy clients, By memorandum 6/18/63
Mr. Welis stated he had been to a luncheon on 2/13/63 with Thomas
Corbally, Ward, Mrs. Robi,Ralton, an Australian woman, abd William

Wells also wrote a memorandum dated 6/18/63 in which he
|stated that Thomas Corbally on 2/5/63 told Clive Bossom, Parliamentary
Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Air Hugh Fraser and Welii
that Christine Keeler was selling a story about her affairs with Profumo,
Ivanov, and others, Wells continued that on 6/17/63 Mr, Bossom told
him that shortly after 2/5/63 he had passed Corbally's statements on to
Fraser and Profumo and that fumo had stated, "There are alwaga# rumors
about men in the limelight.¢ ¥X\) 3
By memorandum dated 1/29/63 Wells recorded a convesgiztion
fhe had with Thomas Corbally in which Corbally said that Mise Bjeler and
Miss Davies had sold an article to the “Sunday Pictorial” in waich they
list the various wen with whom $he had slept. The memorandum stated
that the impending scandal had been brought to the attention of the
Prime Minister on the evening of 1/28/63 and a letter had been written
to the above paper putting the paper on notice that the Government is
aware of the story and under British law the story could not be pee
until after the trial of the ican, who was being charged with
attempting to murder Keeler, VA) .
