The "Journal American" carried an article dated
June 24, 1963, alleging that USA Morgenthau had reopened the
Towers case to determine if there have been any violations of
national security. The article further alleges that this action
was taken only after the "Journal American" had reported that
Towers had claimed refuge behind the Iron Curtain and was
given "VIP" treatment by communist rulers. The article also
alleges Novotny wade statements to formerAUSA Donati concerning
her relationship to "one of the communist world’s most powerfu
rulers." Thés article further contains a quetion-and-answer
type interview between Donati and the interviewers wherein
Donati states he was informed by Novotny that she was the niece
of the President of Czechoslovakia, Antonin Novotny. Donati.
indicates in this article that when Towers jumped bail “We
ee Tl eS i rt _ ae he on =
were all running around like chéckens with our heads chopped
off" and that he had advised the FBI of Novotny's relationship
to the President of Czechoslovakia. In regard to a question
“When did you last find out that Towers was behind the Iron
Curtain?" Donati replied, “I don't know. After Copenhagen,
I lost track of him. I realize, of course, theatre are a lot
of skeletons here that can be rattled and rightfully so.*
In regard to the above-mentioned article a review of our files
concerning the Towers' matter fails to reveal any indication
that we were ever advised of the alieged relationship between
Novotny and the President of Czechoslovakis.
