MURTHA, U.S. Congressman, Twelfth District, Pennsylvania (PA), reported a threatening letter was received through the U.S. Mail on March 22, 1990, at Congressman MURTHA'S office in Somerset, PA, and contained a threat to the life of Congressman MURTHA. The return address on the envelope listed the sender as Somerset State Hospital, Somerset, PA, 15001, and the letter was postmarked March 21, 1990, from the Somerset State Hospital, Somerset, PA. Somerset State Hospital officials were contacted and confirmed that is currently a patient at the hospital. has been diagnosed as a- chronic schizophrenic. has been treated at the Somerset State Hospital and the Fairview State Hospital continuously since 1983. Dr. M.D., attending physician, advised that due to edical history,L __—siiss considered unpredictable and dangerous because of previous acts of striking out with hands and fists against staff members at the hospital. Staff members at the hospital added that, in their opinion,[ _] does not have the foresight, judgement or attention span to plan or carryout any plot to assault a public official.
