He. Miscellaneou Incidents
Humerous witnesses have been developed in this ‘ease who will de able
to testify to numerous other incidents bearing on the alleged unfair labor
practi in by Elsboff against the PMW Union during the time he re-
ceive from John L. Lewis. For example, it has been established
that Le number of officials of the UMW Dnion are personally very
frimdly with Elehoff and met with him on muserous occasions. Also, during
the time Mine B was shut dom Elshoff bought brokerage coal from the Peabody
Mines, Springfield, Illinois, at a very advantageous price arrangement.
George W. Reed, Vice President of the Peabody Mines, has admitted that Ray
Edmundson, President of the UMW Local at Springfield, suggested that the
Peabody Company, which was organized under the UMW Union, take steps to seil
brokerage coal to Elshoff in 1937; however, be denies that there was anything
out of the way in the transaction. In selling brokerage coal, Elshoff had an
outside source of income at the tine Mine B was not in operation.
