Dear Sir:
The Bureau is advised that a conferanoe was held with Mr. FRANK
COLEMAN, Special Assistant to the Attorney General, in my office on the
late afternoon of September 18, 1943. At the time he calied at my office
he was accompanied by Mr. PAT COONS, another Special Assistant to the At-
torney General. The purpose of this canference was to go over a number of
points Mr. COLEMAN desires to be handled, inammoh as he contemplates that
the facts in this case will be presented to the Federal Grand Jury son-
vening in Springfield, Illinois, on September 29, 19435. He said he was
leaving for Washington on the night of September 16, 19435, and timt he
would direct a memorandum to the Bureau setting forth in detail any ad-
ditional investigation he desired.
He was very well pleased with the status of the case as of September
28, 1943 and said that most of the investigation he desired had been com
pleted, particularly insofer as presentation of the facts to a Federal Grand

The main request of Mr. COLEMAN was in connection with the issuance
of subpoanses to persons whose presence might be desired before the Federal
Grand Jury at Springfield, Illinois. He said he had reached a desision to
subpoenas all P.M.A. members at Mine B in May 1957 who are presently employed
at aither Mine B or Mine A in Springfield, Tliinoias. He requested this
office to prepare a list of all of these persons and said he would call me
from Washington, D. C. at such time as he desired this list to be furnished
to the U. 8. Attorney at Springfield, Illinois, so that immediate subpoenses
could be issued for their presence before the Federal Grand Jury. I informed
Mr. COLEMAN that no written requested had bean received from the Department
through the Bureau at Washington to furnish any reports or other data to the
U. & Attorney at Springfield, Illinois, and I requested him to take up
direotly with the Bureau the furnishing of any names or reports to the U. 8,
Attorney in Springfield. He «sid he would do this
