Dear Sir:
In connection with the investigation of this case by the
Springfield Meld Division considerable inquiry has been made relative
to the attezpted purchase a the Panther Creek Mines, Inc., Spring-
field, Illinois TT aotobery ELSHOFF ever a period extending from the
wommer of 1941 unt
the course of this inquiry Mr. ROBERT ¢NsoLouas,
President of the Panther Creek Mines, Inc. was intervi
appears that in the early part of June, 1%2 Mr. SOLOMAN with his
attorneys had a conference with ELSHOFF relative to the possible
purchase of the Panther Creek Mines. At that tine 1t developed that
ELSHOFF hed in his possession facts and figures which analysed the
financial setap ef the Panther Creek Mines at that time. ELSHOFF
had actuzi figurea on the estimated value of the Panther Creek
properties and ita indebtedness for the years of 19% and 1937.
ELSHOFF at that time stated that he obtained this data in Washington,
D.C. In the same conversation ELSHOFF commented that before he
could accept any proposition relative to the purchase of the nines
be would have to see “his parties in Washington, D.C.* It is knom
that shortly after this EISHOFF did go f enintted ig D.C. and was
apparently in contact with the office of ited Mine orkere of
America daily. Mr. SOLOMAN has informed that during 19

Corporation in Washington, D.C. for the refinancing of the entire
