get out that the Criminal Division has ad-
vised that in 1952 4njunction proceedings were instituted in the Stete Court
in Springfield, Illinois, against LEWIS which resulted in an tnjunction forr
bidding LSWIS from interfering with Progressive Mine Workers! activity in
Tilinois. The Criminal Division requested a copy of these proceedings be
secured and forwarded to the Department. ow
A careful search of the records of the Clerk of the Circuit Court,
Sengamon County, Springfield, Illinois, failed ¢o reveal any injunction pro-
ceedings wherein the Progressive Mine Workers of America and JOHN L. LEAS
were parties to the action.
A similar search of the records of the Federal District Court, ,
Southern District, Southern Division of Jllinois, was negative.
The records, however, of the Clerk of Circuit Court, Gengamon
County, Springfield, Illinois, under docket Wo. 62104, reflect that a bill
of complaint was filed October 11, 1929, by HARRY FISHWICK, et aly against
JOHN L. LEWIS, et 21. This was en action in chancery requesting Fmmediate
temporary injunction and permanent injunction by the officers of the then
District No. 12, U. Me W. of A. against JOB L. LEWIS and other officera of
the Internstional U. M. W. and individuals whom LEWIS had appointed to assume
the various offices of District No. 12 in place of the elected officers, HAR-~
RY FISHWICK being one cf the elected officers. In this case, JOSEPH A. LON-
DRIGAN and FLOYD E. THOMPSON were the principal attorneys representing FISH-
WICK. The principal attorneys representing JOHN L. LEWIS wers HENRY WARRUM,
CHARLES E. PEIRICH, M. PULVERMAN and and GILLESPIE, BURKE, and GILLESPIE.
The docket ‘alone in this case consumed several pages, and it is
believed at this time too voluminous to quote. Sumerous ploedings were
filed including several amended bills of complaint, several anewsre end
amended answers, several cross bills, amended answere to cross bills end
amended cross bills. From time to time, numerous complainants and defend-
ants were added and subtracted from the suit. The suit was very active dur-
ing the remainder of 1929 and 19350. @m April 17, 1950, the Court ordered s
citation, for contempt against JOHN Ll. LOWS and several others. Later in
July, the citation against most of the others for contempt was dismissed.
The pleadings in this case are very voluminous and would fill at least one
file drawer. .

Appeals, Supreme Sourt Building, Springfield, Illinois, revoaled that as
B result of the proceedings in Cireuit Court of Sangamon County in connec=-
tion with instant case, two appeals were taken. The first appeal by JOHN
L. LEWIS contends that the temporary injunction imposed by the Cireust
