"I remember going out to Mine B one morning when 15
UMA, who had formed a new local, tried to open the
liine. These 13 men were composed mostly of the men
named above. The PMA started a sitdown strike out
there to protect their jobs. I was only at the mine for o couple of days
during the sit down strike.
"J voted in the lst N.L.R.B. election which PMA won by o big
mejority.
"While the mine was closed on strike I raised a garden and
sold vegetables and went one year on W.P.4. I was on wPA when 1 got a
letter from iir. Elshoff to come back to work.
‘Wihen I went back to Mine B it wes "open shop.” I was still a
Progressive. Two or three months efter 1 was beck at work
came around and esked me to sign up UNWA. I told him thet Lwas goin
vod Vittic. Iwas never threatened or beaten, but I cor
wis :. the office after he got beat up because he wouldn't join UMWA,,
I finally joined UMWA beceuse I saw thet most of the men were joining up,”
and I was afraid of getting beat up if TI didn't. i
