Even though they had no contract they kept on working. I did not ettend or know anything about ¢ meeting the night before the mine closed. "I want to work the day of the strike and knew nothing about any strike. When I came out at quitting time 1] heard there was a etrike. I later heard that they called a strike because they had no contract. I never loaded any cars short when I went home I saw some on the carting that were loaded short I dont know why they were loaded this wav, About two weeks efter mine B closed I went + and worked for a couple of months. I never signed any petitions for U.ia. or FAILA. I dont know anything about any attempt to form a Uek.We local in Spring., Il]. Iwas still a the sit dovin strike etarted. I went out to the sit dovn started I had to to eat, Iwas there over a month. I went on my own free will. I dont kno why they were there. Everything was quiet and peaceful, as far as I kno all the men vere local 54 men. I wes there when the yarshell seme and told us to leave, nothing wae said, we juet left, you cant talk beck to the U. S. Larshell when he's got the warrants “I didnt hear anything about the attempts to open the mine in Dec. 1937 or Jen. 1936. “JT voted et the first UslelsBe Glection. I went right from my home to the Armory anc voted the way I vanted. As far as I know it was e honest election, it was held by secret ballot. I was not forced to vote. *I dont know why Elshoff vould not eign with P.l..A. after they won the ele¢tian, I dont know how he was able to afford to keep the mine closed so long either. ; “I never heard anything about Falsetti or any men fran Mine Be working at Jeffereon tine, After the Marshall made us leave Mine B I got a job on W.P.A, and took no interest in the mine, “When the mine opened in 1939 I got a letter telling me to come back to work. I went out and saw Falsetti, who put my name on the list, I was last on the list, -1_ a eouple ef months they sent me - 80 -
