the U.M.W. had men going around trying to sign
men up but I dont kmow anything about the methods

Falscetti went over to the Jefferson mine to run
it, I don't know anything about fr. Elshoff owning any interest in or being

"I have been shown by 4g¢ents of the F.B.I. an affidavit dated
hug, 25, 1937 at Virden, Ill. this affadavit refers to Charles Roth,
whe is now dead, telling me and others to attend a U.M.. meeting. The
information therein is true anc correct and I reaffirm it and my signature.
The statements in it were given freely by me and I was not forced to sign
it or compelled in any way. I believe it was made at the Court House in
Virden, Ill.

knew it was going to onen but dont recall just how I got notice of this.
I believe someone phoned and told mc about it. I have no rccollection of
the frogressives having held any meeting to decide what they vere going
to go. As I remember I went back the first day all ready to go to work
but didn't. I think that only about 5 or 6 men went down in the mine that
day. Thosc men as I recall wers Pete Carter, Cotton Ananias, Andy
schrelevious, Tony Plotch, Pominic Fasquale, Sammy, Frank Auston, John
Sirtout, Geo. & Emory Jacaway (Father & Son), Charles Bohanon and James
Fule, I belicve they were all in working clothes and nobody tricd ta
stop them, J] dont remember any body saying you had to join U.M.”. in order
to go to work. T dont remomber that these mon verc supposed to be U.M.7.
spies but do romember that they went to work. I came on back home that day
and -ent back to the mine ths next day to help ith the picketing, I
helped with this for about 30 days and then got a job with ages

"I voted in the first ™.L.R.8. election as I had a right to do
this and intended at the time to go back to vork at mine "BY. As I
remember this election it was fair and honest, The balloting was by
secrect ballot and no one tried to influence me to vote one way or the
{ hen the mine opened in Dec, 1939 I went back and worked one day
then quite. I ouite end went to work at the Virden Mine which is a P.M.A.
mine, I am still a P,?'.A. member. I quite the mine "E" because i had
another job at the Virden Mince and felt I would rather work there.
