and I elso failed to get my last two checks, As I
understood it the reason for the $10 kick in wes
that hr, BREVERTON had borrowed $135,000 from the
mn Th Fe ee ; ee ee if
R.F.C. to open the mine and the miners were required
to pay back $35,000 of this amount and the #10 each pay which we paid in was
to psy off this loan. “hen I gave $10, I was given a receipt which wes sup-
posed to be sn interest for that emount in the Indiana Coel Lands Trust but
to the present time I hu.ve received nothing for the emount of money I paid
in for this schane. My father wis working at Jefferson Mine et this time and
he also paid in ¥10 ezch pay.
"I began working a8 til Mine "B" opened in Nov. 1939.
‘hen Mine "B" opened up at that time My fovqer went to work as bors and i went
tc work as a trip rider, 4t this time she mine opened on an open shop basis
and I wes still a member of U.M.\. from Jefferson Vine but since the mine was
on en open shop basis I did not say any dues to Uke
"T did not seo anyone bect up while I wis working at Mine "BY.
"TY yoted in the N.L.R.B. election in Feb. 1941, and I voted for
U.M.i. becouse I thought the mejority would wote thit way and no force or
threots of any kind were mide to get me to vote one wny or the other. About
Merch 1941, or the first pey sfter the check off aysten went into effect I
quit working st Kine "B". I quit because U-M. . checked off back dues on me
which I did not think I should pay. I lerrned that there was nothing I dould
do to get this money, paid for back dues, returned to me, 66 ZI quit working
in mines altogether.
