"I was working at Perther Ureek #l in ifeoe when A jo the
Progressives. ; started working at Mine B in about 1955 and was © working
there at the time of the strike in 1937. In the Spring of 1937 I recall that
the unian contract with the company had expired & the union was trying to
get a new costract. I also recall that at about this same time some mon
wers trying to orgenize for United. I know that everyone seemed to be
satisfied with Progressive cucept for about 14 men who were trying to org-
anize for United. us far as I kmowevcryone was satisfied at the mine ex-
cept chose men. Some of the men who were trying to organize were Tony
Plotch, Bohannon, Albanese, Pasquale, Andy and others, I remember that
these men were trying to tell the other men to join up with United. I al-
ways told these men that 1 would sign up with United when the rest did. I
said if everybody joined I would. I believe Tony Plotch asked me to join
Umited before the strika.
! "I went to work as usual in box Q~ the day of the strike and
I remember that there was some argument as to whether the Progressive
men were going to let those United mon work. There wore some men in the
company office and they said they didn't want the men to work, te all
started on our jobs & lot of the men loaded short cars, but I loaded my
cars as usual.
“As I remember it we worked until about 2 O'clock in the after-
noon when we were told to come out of the mine. At about that time I saw
some of the cars that were loaded short. ‘chen I came on top I was told
