"J joined the Progrsssive Union in about 1932 and do not know any
of the details as to how it wis formed. I started to work at Mins B in
1936 ind when I first sterted to work everything wis going along fine. Both
the officers and men in the P'A seemed to be good peonle and the union was
retting along fine with the company.

"I recall thet in the spring of 1937 the union was trying to negotiat-
a new contract with the company. I don't remember any of the details, but
I do know there was some question about waves. I know that avout this same
time some of the men started t2lking about joining the U.!.7, I don't recall
even a that any men were expelled fron the union at that time. I
lived ir! and so didn't attend many of the meetings... I just heard
that some men Irom United were cusing trouble at the mine. I think there
wis around 20 men who were working for United--I think Bohannon and Pasquale
were two of the men. These men never said anything to me, but I know
they used to hang around the office and t-lked a lot to the others.
