was involved. No one came out and flatly stated that the PMA local
should go over to the UMN, but the general trend of the meeting was to
the effect that Mine A was now owned by Elshoff and that he favored the ©
Uy and that he probably would not open it under PMA, and that there-
fore if work was to be had it would be necessary to join the UMW. No
one in particular led this discussion at the meeting.
"Shortly after this I received an unsigned form letter
in the mail, and I think that there was 4 notice in the newspapers,
both to the effect thet there would be a meeting of the Mine A local
at the Redmen’s Hall, giving the time and date, and stating that the
purpose was to discuss the current situation.
The main talk at this meet
ber B who indicated that he was_on a committee which had
visited Ur. Elshoff. The whole trend of a 2 was that it had |
been indicated by Mr. Elshoff that Mine 4 would reopen and employ the
men only if they came over to the UM’, stated that Mr. Elshoff |
had not flatly stated this, but that this was the impression which
Elshoff had left with the committee. As & result of alk, and
the general discussion, the general feeling expressed by men present
was that they wanted to go over to the UM7. I camot positively say
whether the men wanted to go over to the UMN because they liked the UMW
or because they wanted to get back to work at any cost, but I believe
that it wes for the latter reason. Ray Edmundson was not esent at
thi i t Redmen's Hall.
"Due to the fact that there were not a sufficient number of
men presemt at the meeting at Redmen's Hell to take a vote, no yote was
taken, but another meeting was decided upon at the Redmen's Hall meeting
It was subsequently announced that thie meeting would be held at the
Eik's Club. & few days after the Redmen's Hall meeting, the meeting at
Elk's Hall was held, .It was held on a Sundey,
SY 2225: spoke, on AR 2°; and 41s0 =
um. who was &lso on the comittee wh visited Mr. Elshoff, spoke.
@ only hope of the men to get their jobs in Mine A, was to join the /|
UMW, inasmuch 4s this was the impression left on the committee by Mr. {-

Elshoff, and was the general rumor around. . :
