he case with Mr. OZANIC disclosed
that he vas in position to furnish consicerable pertinent and first
hand information concerning the ?fine "B" situation. ‘Mr. OZAWIC
willingly agreed to meet the agents et the Springfield Office on
Monday morning, August 23, 1943, for a more complete discussion of his
part in this case, and also to execute a signed statement. Mr. OZANIC
called at the Springfield Office as ecread, and after an exhaustive
interview the following signed statanent was dictated by him:
“Springfield, Illinois
August 23, 1943
"T, JOSEPH OZANIC, make the following voluntary statement to
Special Agents and QM of the Federal Bureau of
Investigation,
"My name is JOSEPH OZANIC, my legal residence being at It. Olive,
Iilinois, and I may be located through the Office of the American
Federation of Labor, Yiashington, D. C.
"T have been & coal miner from September 15, 1910 up until the
present time. During that period I was a member of the United Mine
Yorkers of America, from September 1910 to September 1, 1932, and since
September 1932, IJ have been a member of the Progressive tine Workers
of America at present affiliated with the American Federation of Labor,
and I did my last work in a coal mine in January 1935. Since that time
I have been conneeted with our organization in various official capacities,
and at the present time J] am e@ ational Representative for the American
Federation of Labor. From February 1, 1935 to January 31, 1937, I served
&s an Executive Board Member for the state organization of the Progressive
Mine “iorkers of America in Illinois, and from February 1, 1937 to
January 31, 1939, I served as the Fresident of the state organization of
the Progressive Mine Workers of America in Jllinois,.
"Wy duties as president of the organization consisted of
administering the affairs, policies, and activities of the organization
on 4 state wide basis including the handling of disagreed grievance cases
on the joint stete executive board that might arise under our contracts
through the Coal Producers Association of Tllinois, and whioh failed of
settlement lotélly between the management and the local representatives
of the Progressive Mine Workers in that mine, As president I became
actively ongaged in the handling of the dispute which originated in May
