Polaa. meatinsa about the bonbings that were havpening
betreen 1932 and 1937. I only knew that I read in the newspapers,
“If the P.il.a. ever asked for extra assessments, the leaders always
explained vhat the assessments were for, There weren't many assessmnts.
"Fron 1932 to 1937 there vere no attempts by the U.L.™., to my
knowledge, to picket idne DB. I never saw any propaganda,
"I don't know anything about any social contacts betreen the
menbers of the U.n.~. and the manacenont of the mine.
"after the temporary agrcement was sipned by the P.t.4. officials
vith the mine management, I don't recall that the P.0L.. officials rave
any report on this agreement. I, as well as most of the miners, felt that
the P.iL... could get as good a wage scale as the U.N... could get. All of
us had faith in the F.i.i. leaders. I don't recall any trouble at iline B
on pay days in .pril 1937.
"IT dontt recall seeing any notice of the F.ii.a. meeting just
before the strike in 1937, but I recall that I heard that there was going
to be a meeting. I don't know what the mecting wes for, and I don't recall
that I went to the mesting.
"On the ‘morning of the strike in May, 1937, I don't recall any
talk regarcing the wage scale. aAs I recall the P.M... men refused to go
into the mine if the U.i'... went into the mine. JI remember that I saw
Dominic Pasquale, Andy Schrelevious, and a third man arguing with the
P.iiuui. officials on the morninc of the strike. I don't know what they
were arguing about. There vas sone talk at the mine on the day of the
strike about loading the cars with short weichts to make the mine manago-
ment sim a contract with F.i14. ‘I did not load ny cars short, and I don't
know if any miners did loac their cars Short.
"I recall that I signed the P.liu. petition vhi ch Sa (>)
brought to my hovse. He told me that the P.?.i4. officials wanted to f
out if the P.Iias had a majority of the miners in line B on their side.
I signed this petition voluntarily because I wanted to,
_ SI recall that in the summer of 1937 Tony Plotch, Cotton snanias,
Teg and a third man, who is now secretary of U.1.7. local; cane to my house
with a Uw... petition which they asked me to sign. They told me that if
I did not sign the petition, thero would be no work at hine,B, and that the
