®I votee in the election of Decembor 1937, I met up at the
Progressive Hall, and went down to vote in a group. Ko one told me howt%s
vote, or tried to influence my vote in any way. It was o fnir electicn as
far as I know, I voted exactly as I wanted to vote.
"During the strike, I was unemployed excopt for what work I could
get on WPA.
"I went back to the mine soon after it opened and went to the same
job tht I had beforo. I still continued to go to the mine late in the
morning, and leave oarly at night, enc i did not know much about what was
going on aut there. I understood that Several men weré beaten up out there

da not know wheat he was supposed to bo doing in the ming, WE ought
thet he was an organizer for tho UWSi. I talked with him several times in tne
mine, No onc ever asked me to join the UMi. I heard that Falcetti had saic
that he cid not want anyone to bother the bottom men. Hono of us working
at the bottom of the shaft were approached to join the UMi, Severs] of us
decided a few cays befors the second election that the mine was going to be
Ui and so we went up and signed up with the UM7. “re had not been asked to
join, but the old Protrossives had been run out of the mine or had left,
anc it looked as if everyone there was a United Mine “orkers, and JI wlways
wanted to be with the majority, 80 I joined.
"I never hcard anyono connected with the management say anything
about wanting the mine to change unions or anything like thet. I did hoar
Oscar Falcetti say three or four times before the strike or any trsubie
startec at all, that he thought that the mine vould go back to tho Unitec
Hine .orkers. I did not pay much attontion to him. J did not hear anything
