I do not récall every having been asked to sign any papers for cither union. I was in favor of the lrogressive Mine Workers, and if I signed any papers it was for them. I did not know any of the men who werc in troulbe with the union exepet one who is dead now, Ho had not said anything to me about changing unions, "I did not know anything about the formation of the IL local during the summer of 1937, nor about a@ contract with the UMW by the Mine B coal Company. JI was not at the mino on the day in Septenber when they tried to open, and when the sit duwm started. I stayed at the sit down only one night, The men thero Were ¥ had worked at Mine B before the strike, except one *T voted in the clection about the unions in Deenmeber 1937, That was a fair plection as far as I know. [on one tried to influence my vote or make/do anything that I did not wart to do, It was a fair clec- tion I voted cxactly as I wanted to vote. "I did not hear anything about trying to open the mine at any time about an attempt to open the minc wmtil they did get it opened, ox~ cept that one tine in September 1937 when the sit down started. During the tinc of the strike I was on WPa part of the time. "When thc mine reopened, I did not get to work witil about Novenbcr 17, There was bad air in oy scetiun and it was a while before things got cleaned out, Therc was no big fire or fall while the mine was closed that I kmow anjthing ‘about. “hen the mince rcupened there was nv cuntract with any union. Sevcral men came and talked tu me abvut switching over to the UM, but the only ones Who asked ne tu juin the ULE. werc and a man whose name I dv nut know. canc ny house once and asked me to join th di say anything, he just canc along.
