“I recall that some of the men started sending up short
loads, but I loaded all of my cars just as they were sup-
pesed to be. I believe that most of the men were sore
eat the company for letting the spies go to work. I also
think some of the men were scre at the company for not giving us 4 new con-
tract and meeting with cur officials. I think the men went on strike that
Cay due to the spies working and also because we couldn't agree as to weges.
"I quit work at the reguler. tine and when I got on top I was told
the mine was on strike. JI remember that I signed a PMA petition at the
cause I
nion hall Nobo¢y forced me te sign the vetition a I sirned beca
Union Malas eC y sa ee alin P awe tee SS
wanted to go back to work.
"After the strike and in the summer of 1957, JCE_ALBANESE & DOM
INIC FAS.UALE came to my house and esked me t© join the U.M.A- They told
me thet if I dien't join United I would never work at Mine Bagain. DOMINIC
did mest of the telking and said he knew I wouldn't work if I didn’t eign up.
I told him I wes going to think it over. In that themer there were no other
attempts to cet me to join the UM",
"In September of 1937 I recell that there was a notice in the peper
that the mine w.s to open, so all the nen want out to the mine. “hen we got
out to the mino FALCETTI said the mine woujd only open up if U.H.W. nen
worked the mine. He said he wanted 50 men to go inte the mine and clean up
so the rest of the men could go tc work. TOMDIELON, president of cur local
ssid he would furnish 50 men, but FALCETTI seid, ‘I'm just working here the
same os you fellows. I'm just uncer orders. I've got orders to hire only
United men.’ FALCETTI then said for the rest of us to stand by and let those
go to work that wanted to, About tan cr 12 men went into the mine and all
of these men were the spies whe hed been working for United. I recall this .-
wes etout 6:30 p.m. & cur men then left the mine and went to union headquar-
ters where we held a meeting. “e ceciced to go to work the next day and
throw up & picket line so the united men couldn't go to work. About 400 of
us went cut to the mine the next day and the men who had worked the day be
fore went into FALCETTIts office and didn't try to go to work. The sheriff
and sone of his deputies were there to see that nobody was hurt. Our nen
then started on a sit down strike at the mine and kept a picket Line at the
mine until the picket line wes broken up by the injunction in Dec. of 1987. —
Iwas on picket duty off and on most cf that time,

"I renomter that within a week after the injunction some of the
United men went to the mine and started to work, There was only avout 10
or 12 men and they were the same cnes who had been expelled from the union.
, IT do not know of any notice that wns given to enycne to report for work at
thet time & I think it ws just‘oan idea of the united men heard about these
nen working so our union a i had an injuncticon issued stepping those
men from workings
