_ I started working at Mine B before the last war and have
pefe ever since with the exception of the time I was in the first
war. I have never held any office in the union Gut was a member of the UMW.
In 1932 there was a dispute that arose between the union and the company as tc
the anount of wages. Due to that fact the men in Mine B broke away and
formed the P.H.A. Everything seemed to go along fine from 1932 until the
time of the strike in 1937.

"Sometime about the first of May, Pete Carter, Tony Plotch,
AndyShrevilians, Pasquale, Austin and several others, began agitating
“amongst the men; they were calling the men "scabs" & trying to start
agitation for the men to join the U.L.W. The territory I was in at the
mine had a nice gang of men in that section and we never had any trouble
in our section. I know that Bohannon, Plotch and Austin seemed to have a
lot of money and were driving nev cars around about that time. I was never
approached by any of these men however. I didn't hear of any meeting to
be held on the night of May 11, 1937 end do not know whet action the union -
took with regard to these men.. On the morning of the 12th I heard that
Bowling Green, Angy and Pasquale had been expelled by the union. These men
were supposed to be drivers, but they spent most of their time on the sur-_
face trying to talk the men into joining the U.N. J believe it was
comin knowledge amongst the men that these men had been fired.
