You will recall that the information regarding the article in the
Chicago Daily News was furnished by Mr. Frank Coleman of the Department, who
stated that the article was fairly accurate in its statement concerning the
Department's plans to hold nd te in September or
in October, 1943.
Mr. Coleman has also indicated that there is some feeling between
the Secretary of the Treasury and the Attorney General with regard to the
prosecution of this case. .
With regard to the attached article captioned "Grand Jury to Probe
$350,000 Lewis 'Loan' to Mine," which appeared on August 30, 1943, in the
newspaperiP,N., it appears that someone has given a rather exact statement
outlining the theory of inveatigation in the captioned case. In view of the
fact that publicity is, of course, very wndesirabie from an investi gative
standpoint at this time, it is believed that the Bureau should be on record
the Department. —~S7TS«7T7«7;737}PHTSCé<;7<;3 }ET
